PE and Sports Grant 2023-24
Most schools with Primary aged students receive the primary Sport Premium. The amount is calculated based upon the number of students aged between 5-10 on role. This funding is used to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of physical education (PE), physical activity and sport schools offer.
Primary Pathways is based at Sherwood Education Centre and provides small group education for primary aged pupils (Key stages 1 and 2) with medical and anxiety-related needs, who find it challenging to attend their mainstream school. Some pupils are admitted to Primary Pathways as a supportive, measure in the event that they are close to permanent exclusion or have been excluded. In all cases, admission to Primary Pathways is always a short-term, part time placement which is used to: assess the pupil’s strengths and areas of need; support pupils to re-engage with learning and school routines and to develop positive and appropriate learning behaviours before transitioning back to mainstream school, Secondary Pathways or another appropriate setting. Most pupils admitted to Primary Pathways will be taught on site at the Sherwood Education Centre. Some may be taught within their home.
Whilst attending Primary Pathways pupils follow a reduced and individualised curriculum which will always include reading, writing, maths and PSHE. Pupils’ personal development is supported and developed through establishing secure, positive relationships with teaching staff alongside PSHE and enrichment activities, which forms an important part of the curriculum, and aims to enhance self-esteem and social skills, enabling pupils to be successful citizens who have self-belief, self-confidence and skills for life. Due to the nature of this setting, explicit physical education lessons are not delivered, the focus instead being opportunities to partake in outdoor physical activities that support fine, gross motor skills and have a positive impact on their mental health and wellbeing.
This year at Hospital and Home Education Learning Centre we have 15 Primary students and have been allocated £2750 of PE and Sport Premium funding.
Providing the pupils with a wide variety of active sessions allows all students to find something they enjoy and gives opportunities for them to find their strengths. Fostering this love of an active lifestyle now prepares our students for a fulfilling and active adulthood.
